I Was Wrong About BNI

For years I assumed it wasn't for me. Then a new chapter launched in Bracknell and I decided to find out for myself.

There, I said it. For years I’d written off BNI – too formal, too structured, not my style. I’d heard about the early mornings and assumed the culture would feel more like a sales pitch marathon than a genuine community. So I kept my distance.

Then a new chapter launched right here in Bracknell, and something made me think: what if I’ve been wrong? I decided to visit and see for myself rather than dismiss it from the sidelines.

"What I found was a brilliant group of local business professionals - all genuinely focused on helping each other grow."

What I Actually Found at BNI Bracknell

Walking into that first meeting, I was braced for the hard sell. Instead, I found something quite different: a room full of local business owners who were invested, genuinely invested, in each other’s success. It wasn’t about selling at each other. It was about building real connections, understanding what each person does, and actively looking for ways to pass meaningful business their way.

The structure that had always put me off? It turned out to be a feature, not a bug. The format keeps things focused and respectful of everyone’s time. Within a couple of hours, you come away knowing exactly what each member does and what a good referral looks like for them.

I joined. And here’s the part that surprised me most: within two weeks of becoming a member, I received my first referral from within the chapter itself. Not months down the line – two weeks. Since then, I’ve also had a referral come in from a member of an entirely different BNI chapter, which speaks to the wider network you tap into when you become part of BNI.

Why BNI Works - The Real Benefits

If you’re on the fence, here’s what I’ve seen first-hand from being part of the BNI Bracknell chapter:

Referrals that are warm

These aren't cold leads. They're recommendations from people who know and trust you - which changes everything.

Results, and quickly

My first referral arrived within two weeks of joining. The network is active and engaged from day one.

A wider
network

BNI isn't just your local chapter - referrals can come from members across the entire BNI community.

Local
roots

You're connecting with people who are building businesses right here in Bracknell and across Berkshire.

The accountability built into the BNI model is real too. You show up, you contribute, and in return you’re front of mind with every person in the room when a referral opportunity arises. It’s not magic – it’s a system that rewards participation.

When and Where We Meet

One of the things that surprised me most was the meeting time. I’d assumed BNI meant 6:30am starts and scrambled eggs in a business park. Not here.

Is BNI Right for You?

If you’re a local business owner in or around Bracknell or Berkshire, whether you’re a consultant, a trades professional, a service provider, or running any kind of business where word-of-mouth matters , BNI is worth at least one visit.

You don’t need to have a slick elevator pitch or years of networking experience. You just need to show up, be genuine, and be open to the idea that a room of local business people looking out for each other can translate into real, tangible work.

I was sceptical. I was wrong. The results are already speaking for themselves.

Come as a Visitor - No Strings Attached

If you’re local to the Bracknell area and curious about what BNI actually looks like from the inside, send me a message and I’ll point you in the right direction. There’s no obligation, no hard sell – just an invitation to see it for yourself.
