We are often get asked about the little icon next to the website name on the browsers tabs. They are called Favicons – short for favourite icon.
The standard size is 16 x 16 pixels for most PC screens. However different devices have different requirements i.e Android Chrome is 192 x 192.
They can be any image format (jpg, png) but most of them tend to be the ico image format.
There are lots of tools online that can be used to create Favicons such as https://favicon.io/. It can generate a Favicon from an image but also from text or emojis. It is best to experiment as not all logos look very good at a small size – it might be better just to use a letter such as the first letter of your business name.
To implement them, the image files need to be uploaded into the root directory of your website. If you are using WordPress, there are plugins that make this easier.
